For Colored Girls

I went to see Tyler Perry's film adaptation of Ntozake Shange’s "For Colored Girls" last night. I, personally, left the theater with very mixed emotions. Overall it was a very touching, very deep movie.  However, at times, I felt like I do about many of  TPs works, that it was a bit over the top. I found myself trying to identify myself with any one of the characters but could only do so to a certain degree. I still feel it's worth seeing but perhaps as the play rather than the movie.  If you do, DVD wouldn't be the worst way to go.  If you've seen this movie, what are your thoughts?

  1. I got a few laughs off "Madea Goes To Jail" and I did enjoy "Daddy's Girls". However, I cannot stand Tyler Perry productions whether they be plays or movies. Something is just "off" with him and the stereotypical, new-age Blaxplotation, soul-bearing, church themed, negro spiritual, buffoonery, and limited/predictable Black expression just irks me in the majority of his works. I have yet to see this ""For Colored Girls thing and already the title is throwing me off; despite whoever authored it originally and whenever.
